Converters USB/RS485

  • Allow you to connect terminals with RS485 to USB computer ports
  • transfer rate of 300 to 2.5 M baud
  • Automatic switching of the direction of data flow
  • Power from USB port
You may download drivers here: FTDI driver

Converters Ethernet/RS485

To connect the terminals to an Ethernet network we use components Xports from Lantronix company.
For setup there is “Device Installer”, for COM port redirection there is “Com Port Redirector”.
The software is downloadable from Lantronix’s website

Distribution of power and RS485 over structured cabling

Multi-port converters of both types were developed for easy wiring in structured cabling. Terminals are simply connected with converters by patch cabels 1:1. The internal connection of connectors will take care of power distribution and compliance within bus RS485.

Connector pins 1-2 and 3-6 are used for power distribution for terminals and have nothing to do with power of converters.

Pins 4-5 and 7-8 of RJ45 connector are wired in a way, which enables them to form bus RS485 from star topology of structured cabling. For compliance within the bus, the terminals must be connected one-by-one from connector No. 1 to connector No. 3, respectively No. 6.

PU01-4

PU02-4

PU20-3

PU26-6

USB/RS485 without galvanic separation

PU01-4

Two RJ10 connectors as a division of RS485.

Connection of RJ10 connector (4p4c):
  1. GND 485
  2. B = Rx-/Tx- = I (Invert) RS485
  3. A= Rx+/Tx+ = NI (Non Invert) RS485
  4. GND 485 (connected to PC ground through a protective resistor)

PU02-4

One connector RJ45. There is a 130R termination resistor connected inside the converter between signals A and B.

Connection of RJ45 connector (8p8c):
ATTENTION - different from multiport converters
  1. GND 485
  2. GND 485 (connected to PC ground through a protective resistor)

  3. B = Rx-/Tx- = I (Invert) RS485

  6. A= Rx+/Tx+ = NI (Non Invert) RS485
  7. NC
  8. NC

PU20-3x8

Three RJ45 connectors allow a simple power distribution and communication over structured cabling. They are connected to terminals by standard patch cabels.

Connection of RJ45 connector:
  1. Nap.+ 12V orange-white
  2. Nap.+ 12V orange
  3. GND green-white
  4. B (Invert) RS485 blue
  5. A (Non Invert) RS485 blue-white
  6. GND green
  7. Ret A RS485 brown-white
  8. Ret B RS485 brown

PU26-6x8

Six RJ45 connectors allow a simple power distribution and RS485 communication over structured cabling. They are connected to terminals by standard patch cabels. Connection of RJ45 connectors is identical with PU20.
